  2.                          Windows [TM] Compatibility:
  3.   
  4. This program can be run from inside Windows [TM], version 3, and comes with 
  5. the 'PIF' file to do so.  During the install process for Mechanic's Scheduler 
  6. [TM], the associated 'PIF' file has already been moved into \WINDOWS and C:\ 
  7. for your convenience.

  10.      Method one to run Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] from the File Manager: 
  11.  
  12. Bring up the Windows [TM].  The Program Manager is central to the operation 
  13. of Windows [TM] and starts automatically whenever you start Windows [TM].  It 
  14. continues to run as long as you are using Windows [TM].   Program Manager 
  15. opens on your desktop with the Main Group window open inside it.  The Main 
  16. Group contains these Windows [TM] system applications:  File Manager, Control 
  17. Panel, Print Manager, Clipboard, DOS Prompt, and Windows Setup.

  19. File Manager appears in the first position in the Main Group window of 
  20. Program Manager.  To start File Manager, double-click the File Manager 
  21. program item icon or use the LEFT or RIGHT ARROW to highlight  the File 
  22. Manager program item icon.  Then press [ENTER] to choose Open from the File 
  23. menu.  File Manager displays the directory tree window for your current disk 
  24. drive, and shows the structure of its directories and subdirectories.

  26. In Windows [TM] 3.0, it begins with the root directory.  A copy of the 'PIF' 
  27. file for Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] is located in 'C:\', the root directory of 
  28. your computer.  With the directory icon resting on the root directory, 
  29. double-click the mouse or press [ENTER] on your keypad.  At that point, 
  30. Windows [TM] will show you a listing of all files in 'C:\'.

  32. In Windows [TM] 3.1, the directory tree window defaults to C:\WINDOWS.  To 
  33. the right of the directory tree is a listing of all files in C:\WINDOWS.  A 
  34. copy of the 'PIF' file for this program is located here too.

  36. Whether you have Windows [TM] 3.0 or Windows [TM] 3.1, using your 
  37. navigational arrows, please locate this file:

  41. After you have found this file and it becomes highlighted, press the [ENTER] 
  42. key once.  At that point, Windows [TM] will run Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] 
  43. normally.  Once you are finished with Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] and exit that 
  44. program, Windows [TM] will bring you back to the point where you have left 
  45. off inside File Manager.

  48.      Method two to run Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] using the Run Command:

  51. Choose Run from the File menu in Program Manager or File Manager.  The Run 
  52. dialog box will appear.  Please enter this text into the dialog box:

  57. As with method one, Windows [TM] will run Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] normally.  
  58. Once you are finished with Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] and exit that program, 
  59. Windows [TM] will bring you back to the point where you have left off inside 
  60. Windows [TM].

  63.    Method three to run Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] by adding a Program Item:

  66. Once inside The Program Manager, bring up the Main Group.  Choose New from 
  67. the File menu.  The Program Manager will the display the New Program Object 
  68. dialog box, with two selections to choose from:  1) Program Group; 2) Program 
  69. Item.  Make sure to select 'Program Item', followed by [ENTER].  At that 
  70. point, the 'Program Item Properties' dialog box appears.  Please enter these 
  71. values:

  80. Upon your completing the dialog box, the Main Group will reappear.  This 
  81. time, though, it contains a new icon, 'DOS', below which is displayed 
  82. 'Mechanic's Scheduler'.  By double clicking this new, permanent icon, you can 
  83. then run this program.

  86. As with method one, Windows [TM] will run Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] normally.  
  87. Once you are finished with Mechanic's Scheduler [TM] and exit that program, 
  88. Windows [TM] will bring you back to the Main Group.

  93. Windows [TM] must be run in the 386 enhanced mode to avail itself of the 
  94. memory management features in the enclosed PIF file.  If not already in the 
  95. 386 enhanced mode, please enter the following command in \WINDOWS:

  100. If your computer appears to be unable to launch this program within Windows 
  101. [TM], yet you are sure you have enough memory to do so, make sure that any 
  102. large hard drive caches are disabled in either CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT.  
  103. One candidate to identify for disabling is:

  114. This application program runs just fine under Windows 95 [TM].

  116. To install it for the first time from Windows 95 [TM], observe this option:

  126. Once you have made that selection, Windows 95 [TM] will display these

  140. After you have selected option 3, Windows 95 [TM] will drop you into a 'C:\' 
  141. prompt.  From there, enter either 'A:' or 'B:' to navigate onto the program 
  142. disk where this application software resides.  Once there, enter 'GO' and 
  143. follow the instructions.
